The esplanade stretches from monument to Ivan Fedorovich Kruzenshtern (he was a Russian admiral and explorer who led the first Russian circumnavigation of the Earth - please read more athttp://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Johann_Krusenstern ) to State Mining Institute. You can walk or skate along river edge or two meters higher along trees. The most interesting objects here are submarine S-189 (Whiskey class, locally known as Project 613) and Metochion of Kiev Pechersk Lavra.
Submarine is going to become floating museum like cruiser Aurora.
Metochion of Kiev Pechersk Lavra is a stunning neo-Byzantine church (1895), built on the site of a previous monastery by architect Vasily Antonovich Kosyakov (1862, St. Petersburg - 1921, Petrograd; read more about his brothers athttp://www.encspb.ru/en/article.php?kod=2804007677 ). This is one of the best places to see the process of church reconstruction - the scale of destruction, despite having been in repair since 1991, is still visible. The 7.7m, 861kg metal cross on the roof was only replaced in 1998.
