Renaissance synagogue in the Old City of Zamosc is one of the greatest monuments of Jewish culture in Poland. Since 2005, the building is owned by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage.

The synagogue was built between 1610-1620, at the initiative of the Sephardic Jews. In the second half of the seventeenth century, to the north and south walls were built two outbuildings, located babińce. In the eighteenth century, the synagogue has been added vestibule connects with the house kahalnym.

During World War II the Nazis devastated the synagogue and organized a workshop in the joinery. After the war, in the years 1948-1950 were the first restoration, so that in 1958 the building earmarked for the Municipal Library. The second restaurant building was carried out in the years 1967-1972, during which was rebuilt by the Germans destroyed the north and the women's gallery was reconstructed attic, which was demolished back in the eighteenth century.

As a result of years of neglect, in 2005 the synagogue was in very poor condition. The Foundation quickly moved the necessary renovations and secured the historic building. We have developed a concept of revitalizing the building and began efforts to raise funds for its implementation.

In 2008 the project "Revitalization of the synagogue in the Renaissance to the needs of the Chassidic Route and the local community" has been the support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and Norwegian Financial Mechanism. In 2009-2010 the Foundation conducted in the building construction and maintenance, so that the building was secured for the next century and restored the old and impressive appearance.

In the building of the seventeenth-century synagogue operates a tour desk and cultural Chassidic Route, and in April 2011 will be launched Multimedia Museum of the History of Jews and the Region. With the center, visitors can find out more about history of the Jewish community, who co-created by centuries of intellectual, religious and cultural face of the region. Part of the surface of the building was converted into a room for non-governmental organizations dealing with culture. The building also serves as religious functions, serving as a place of prayer visitors Zamosc Jewish groups
