La Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Fribourg est de style gothique.Elle fut construite entre 1182 et 1490.
La tour la plus haute est de 74 m et comporte un escalier en vis de 365 marches.
Réalisés entre entre 1896 et 1936, les vitraux sont l'œuvre du peintre polonais Józef Mehoffer.

La Cathédrale de Fribourg est construite en molasse, roche sédimentaire abondante sur tout le plateau suisse.
Extrêmement friable, ce matériau est particulièrement sensible à la pollution issue des gaz d'échappement et des pluies acides, ce qui nécessite des travaux de restauration et de conservation en continu.
