Canelles es sinónimo de espectacularidad. La central fue inaugurada en 1956 y aprovecha el agua del río Noguera Ribagorzana embalsada en el Pantano de Canelles.
Canelles llegó a contar con más de 50 operarios, reducidos ahora a cero (la central está controlada desde Lleida).
La presa de Canelles tiene 16 km de túneles construidos para inyectar hormigón líquido a presión y para evitar filtraciones masivas. La visita incluye el túnel de la cota 380, donde podremos contemplar las válvulas que alivian el agua del interior de la montaña cuando la presión es muy elevada. En el exterior de la construcción admiramos el túnel del aliviadero, que en caso necesario permite soltar 3.000 m3 de agua por segundo.
