Castle Saranta Kolones (Κάστρο Σαράντα Κολώνες), or Forty Columns castle. It takes its name from large number of granite pillars that prevailed in its appearance, and most likely taken from the Agora. Built by the Lusignan dynasty in the beginning of the XII - XIII (in some sources - 1192) on the ruins of the Byzantine castle, founded in the VII century to protect the city and harbor of Paphos from Arab raids and substantially rebuilt by the Crusaders in 1200. After the destruction of the earthquake in 1222 the castle  were never restored, now its ruins are part of the Paphos Archaeological Park.
