End of a rainy day, Dogubayazit, Turkey

It was raining all day long, black clouds had covered the sky. When I arrived in Dogubayazit, close to the Iranian border, the clouds opened a hole for bright sunbeams. I was on the way to visit the 300 years old Ishak Pasha Palace and just hoped to find a place to take some photos with the light in the background.
The palace had been built by Ishak Pasha, a Kurdish ruler who contolled the silk road. Close to the palace, at the foot of the big rock , you can see a mosque from ottoman times. The rock itself carries ancient walls which date back to the Urartian empire, 800 - 600 B.C. Above the mosque is a rectangular hole in the rock. It leads into a chamber which probably was the grave of an Urartian prince. Next to the hole, but not visible in my pano, are the only Urartian rock reliefs in Turkey.
