This is one of the oldest living trees in Europe. At least 1500 years old! Scholars say it could be even 2000 years old, as this trees were sacred for people living here before the Roman conquest, and they used to bury their deads close by. After christianization this tradition was continued to avoid pagan rituals, and this helped this tree to suvive untouched until today (Most of them were cut for their extremely hard wood for building ships at the height of the Spanish empire, until they almost disappeared).
